A Showcase of Wii Web Games and Applications

On Monday I posted a showcase of XNA-based games. Today I have a cross sample of what people are doing with the Wii web browser. Games are obviously high on the list but given the freedom of the web, people are doing much more. Enjoy!

Yatsha Games has a variety of nicely stylized casual games designed for the Wii controller.

Over at WiiCade not only have they gathered a wide variety of games that work on the Wii but last week they released an API for Flash developers. As reader 'thewiirocks' mentions here, games are already taking advantage of the API.

The folks at Warp Pipe Technologies have put together an application they call wiiminder. In essence it is a site that enhances the web browsing experience by supporting tabbed browsing and start pages while allowing you to manage commonly accessed sites.

There are also multiple media centers being built. I have previously mentioned Red Kawa's Wii Media Center X but the video below is demonstrating another media center called WiiCR.

Hey, look! My name is up in lights! =)

As usual, I'm here to add some commentary and tasty info on the situation. First, Yatsha:

IMHO, their Paintball game is possibly the best shooter available today. They used the Quasimondo API (pretty much straight out of the box) to make use of the B button as a trigger. The result is quite impressive and fun to play. I'm none too keen on Yatsha's other two games (which are really just "trace the pattern before the deadline" mini-games), but the Paintball one is a great reason to stop by.

Secondly, WiiCade has added two more WiiMote games to its portfolio. One of them - SnowBlitz for Wii - is quite possibly the *best* game currently on the site. It's also the first game to use nearly every function of the WiiMote currently supported by the API. Impressive!

WiiCade Ball is a bit simplistic, but its take on 2 player gameplay is rather interesting. It actually requires two players to share the buttons on a single WiiMote. (!!!)

Last (but not least), there's a "trailer" that shows off a few of WiiCade's WiiMote-enabled games. (Along with a few other recent titles.) Find it here:

It's a fairly simplisitic video, and was (unfortunately) recorded on a PC. Still, it's not too bad and can give you a good overview of the new stuff WiiCade has been introducing.

Of course, it's always possible that I'm dinging it because the video author is *way* better at Radioactive Snakes than I am. ;-)
