Microsoft to Nintendo: Banjo-Kazooie for Diddy Kong Racing?
Play-Nintendo has an article up with some quotes from the Rare Scribes pages that mention two things. First, Rare/Microsoft hasn't dismissed the idea of Banjo-Kazooie showing up on Wii's Virtual Console. Second, Diddy Kong Racing isn't clearly Nintendo's.
SPOnG has an article up where Reggie Fils-Aime, President of Nintendo of America, said "We know that there are a lot of fans from Microsoft and Xbox because they call us constantly trying to get product."
Speculation: Why would Microsoft let Nintendo put Banjo-Kazooie on the Wii? Seeing the two articles made me think the idea is a negotiating tactic. Microsoft would love to see a Nintendo property on their console. If Diddy Kong Racing isn't clearly Nintendo's (and this could be due to an old contract between Rare and Nintendo) it could be the perfect game to grab. Microsoft could offer Banjo-Kazooie to smooth out even the potential of a legal situation.

Why can't Microsoft trade Goldeneye instead of Banjo-Kazooie?

Conker isn't a Nintendo character. While Rare did create Diddy, he belongs to Nintendo's Kong family. I find it hard to believe that Nintendo would let Microsoft use Diddy, but maybe they could make the game without any of the Kong characters. Still have Banjo, Conker, Timber, Pipsy, Tiptup, Bumper, and Drumstick. They did a similar thing with the game Banjo Pilot.
As for GoldenEye, it isn't Microsoft's to trade, Nintendo needs to negotiate with Activision for the 007 license.

I was completely surprised to see Rare's comment on Diddy Kong Racing and you may very well be pointing out a way to get around it. Would loose some of its appeal, let alone a name change.
As for Bond, ya that game/franchise has a lot of companies involved. Curious to see if they ever fully unwrangle it. Owners of both the Wii and 360 would no doubt love to see it on their respective consoles.
As for Killer Instinct, I can't see Rare trading on that one. There are a lot of people looking to see it show up, so I would guess MS/Rare would rather see a true sequel show up on the 360 (e.g. Banjo-Kazooie 3).
